Change and Growth |
Synaesthetic Surround Therapy addresses the self as an integration of intellectual, emotional and sensory experiences that combine for a more unified experience of our daily lives. | Yet we are not simply the sum of these experiences. | There is a deeper, visceral experience that interacts with our thoughts and emotions, but also goes beyond them in breadth and depth. | Because the visceral interacts with our thoughts and emotions it can be indirectly influenced by addressing them, yet this is often a slow process that may address the surface meaning of what may be occurring without directly addressing the deeper, visceral experience of meaning. | When we feel stress or anxiety there is a more basic, underlying experience that is coloring our thoughts and emotions, even when we aren't directly aware of it. | Similarly, thoughts and emotions, whether depressive or uplifting are not the sum of specific negative or positive events, but rather mirror a deeper, more visceral experience of what it is to be who we are in this world. | Because our visceral experience is so determinate of our general experience and ultimately whether we are happy or unhappy, the more direct the method of addressing this visceral component, the more effectively we can create change in all aspects of our lives. | It is sensory input and our perceptual experience of what is around us and what it feels like to be us that most directly creates this visceral experience. | Through light and sound techniques that address multiple senses, Synaesthetic Surround Therapy accesses this deeper, visceral state to change the experience of being. | By changing the visceral state of being, growth and change of emotions and thoughts then follow. |

Happiness |
Synaesthetic Surround takes its name from Synaesthesia, which is the perception of a single sensory stimulus through multiple senses. | For example, one might see colors while listening to music. | This perceptual crossing through the senses accesses the visceral, unified experience of being that we all have as infants, and that for the most part we have learned to stop accessing as adults in the interest of making experiences quickly manageable. | This streamlined version of our experience is optimized for everyday functionality and survival, but not for an experience of meaning or happiness. | When we are disconnected from our visceral experience we lose a sense of meaning. | Simply spending time in this basic state of being creates a calm and contentment as well as increses creativity and inspiration. | In addition, as brainwaves become entrained to the new neuronal pathways created by Synaesthetic Surround therapy, these states become more accessible whether with or without the therapeutic techniques. |

Learning & Integration |
The times between and after sessions are particularly effective times for integration and solidfication of what one learns in sessions. | Many treatments involve isolated one hour experiences with little thought or emotion devoted to them outside of that hour. | Like other forms of learning, developing new perspective and abilities requires attention and reinforcement. | Synaesthetic Surround directly addresses this aspect of learning by integrating between-session tools as part of the treatment. | These tools, such as recordings of session soundscapes embeded with brainwave frequencies, are sensorial/visceral and therefore more directly and fully access memory and learning. | Beyond memory, the sensorial/visceral nature of these tools and their brainwave properties elicit strong responses in their own right, thus extending treatment to times outside of sessions. |
