Synaesthetic Surround stimulates and engages imagination in order to reframe and expand possibilities for self-definition and perception. | To establish an imaginative, immersive environment it uses creative forms such as soundscapes and light treatments. | These treatments are created both in-house and in collaboration with artists working with sound and light. | This particular integration of art with therapeutic work is rich with possibilities for art to have direct therapeutic effect, for art to expand the definitions of therapy and for therapy to broaden the definitions of art.|
Light and sound artists and those who work with light or sound are encouraged to contact Dr. Bresnick to explore possibilities of collaboration and mutual interest.|

Karine's photographs draw in the viewer with their vivid color, dramatic composition and evocative imagery. | Once engaged a flexibility in the viewer's consciousness is fostered by the irrreality of the images' unstraight lines, angles and unusual perspectives. | This flexibility occurs within a supportive context of the images' warmth and imaginative landscapes. | Such supported flexibility allows for new experiential possbiliities and, when integrated with therapeutic techniques that work with shifts in perspective and emotion, becomes an effective experiential tool for growth.

Gerald Stevens: Sound Artist, Shock Physicist

Gerald contributes to the technology used in Synaesthetic Surround and through the sound art he has created that is used in the technique. His work is expansive, evocative, complex and other worldly. | These qualities help to quickly shift the listener out of the habitual and limiting patterns of the monodimensional functional mode that is often our experience of the everyday and into a space in which alternative and rich perspectivess and experiences are possible. | Gerald is also instrumental in expanding upon current audio-visual stimulation technology to translate it into an immersive environment for Synaesthetic Surround. | His work in physics, sound art and electronic media have made him particularly qualified for this task and have allowed him to simplify aspects of the technology that could have been prohibitively complex.
